Citizenship Unit
The Agency’s Citizenship Unit is responsible for processing applications for Jamaica citizenship as well as applications for renunciation and reinstatement of citizenship.
The laws that govern the operation of this Unit are The Jamaica Constitution and The Nationality Act.
Applications for citizenship are done in different categories. These include applications for citizenship by:
Descent
Marriage
Naturalization (non-Commonwealth citizens)
Registration (Commonwealth citizens)
Registration (Minors)
Doubt
The Citizenship Unit is open to the public at the following times:
- Mondays to Thursdays between 8:30am and 3:00pm
- Fridays between 8:30am – 2:00pm
Applications can be submitted for the following categories at the Jamaican High Commissions/Consulates overseas
Descent
Non-Descent
Marriage
Registration of a Minor
Renunciation
Restoration
Local and overseas applications for Citizenship by Descent are processed within 30 working days. Non-Descent applications are processed within 24 months.
