Deported Persons Can Retrieve their Passports at PICA
01/09/2010
Persons who have been deported to Jamaica are encouraged to visit or call the office of the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) to ascertain whether or not their passport is with the Agency before applying for a new one.
Typically persons who are deported are required to hand over their passport to the immigration authority in the deporting country in order to confirm their nationality. Passports are thereafter forwarded to the Jamaican mission (Embassy, High Commission, Consulate) before they are sent to PICA.
In many instances, deported persons are unaware of the fact that their passport is in the possession of the Agency. At present, PICA has in storage hundreds of passports that have been returned, particularly from the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom.
If you have been deported then it is possible that your document is with the Agency. Please visit or call our offices to verify. PICA is situated at 25c Constant Spring Road in Kingston and our numbers are 754-4742, 754-5092-3, 754-5249, 754-9740, 906-1304, 906-1497 or 906-4402.
If upon retrieving a passport at PICA it is discovered that the document is expired, then persons are free to apply for a new one.
If a document was not returned to Jamaica then persons will be allowed to apply for a new passport. In such cases, the applicant must state that he or she has been previously issued with a passport.
