PICA’s CEO, Jennifer McDonald accepts a cheque for $4.3M from Mr. Richard Byles, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sagicor Group. The presentation was made at a press conference on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Sagicor’s Head Office in New Kingston. The funds will be used to purchase a fever scanning machine for the Sangster International Airport.

The equipment uses infra-red technology to detect persons with elevated body temperatures and will be useful in ensuring that the Ebola virus disease does not enter Jamaica. Mr. Byles says that he will be calling on other private sector members to come on board and to finance the acquisition of four additional machines for the island’s other ports of entry. PICA is acquiring the machine from a supplier in Canada.

The Honourable Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting and the Honourable Minister of Health Dr. Fenton Ferguson, also participated in the press conference.
